Denise Murrell joins us to discuss curating “Posing Modernity: The Black Model from Manet and Matisse to Today,” a sweeping re-examination of the history of modern art at the Wallach Art Gallery at Columbia University. The show is up through February 10, 2019 and is co-organized by the Wallach and the Musée d’Orsay. The show has several events attached to it, including: on January 12, the Lenfest Center for the Arts invites visitors to experiment with different drawing techniques while looking at works on view, on January 15, Murrell will give a lecture at the Art Students League, on January 17, Murrell will be part of a panel discussion at the New York Historical Society, and on January 26, the Lenfest Center for the Arts will host a conversation with history professor Lorelle D. Semley titled, "Bordeaux, Forgotten Black Metropolis."

Journalist Katherine Goldstein, author of the recent piece, "I was a Sheryl Sandberg superfan. Then her 'Lean In' advice failed me," and Professor Khadijah White, assistant professor in the journalism and media studies department at Rutgers University, join us to talk about “leaning in” 5 years later -- What’s changed, if anything, for women, how has the sentiment changed in light of Sheryl Sandberg’s work at Facebook and calls for her to resign, and was it really helpful advice for women in the first place?
