Jesus prayed often. He prayed alone, with others, at night, during the day, before major events in his ministry. His very last words were a prayer. In short, Jesus' life was saturated with prayer. 

When his disciples finally ask him to teach them to pray, what he says is remarkably short but it is packed with meaning. It's also full of 'us' language.
