Progressive Spirit United Church of Christ in Jacksonville celebrated its 150th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its history. The church, which has evolved from its downtown roots to its current location in Arlington, held a special service attended by Reverend Michael Piazza and Reverend Karen Georgia Thompson. The event featured a choir performance and a moving rendition of Circle of Life by Broadway actor Jelani Remy. Following the service, members gathered for a champagne reception. Reverend Michael Piazza, who joined the church in 2022, brought his experience from leading a large church in Dallas. The church is also set to welcome Reverend Karen Curtis-Weakley in early 2026, further enriching its leadership team. The anniversary celebration honored the churchs past while setting a hopeful tone for its future growth and community impact.
