In fact, all the events in Matthew 24 center around Jerusalem. Jerusalem and Israel are the point of reference for anyone who wants to know what time it is on God's prophetic calendar. In Matthew 24, our Lord is saying, "Keep your eyes on Israel. Israel is your point of reference. Israel is the indicator. Watch the fig tree and when you see the branches begin to blossom, when you see the nation begin to come to life again, then you know the end is approaching."
