Migratory titi or muttonbirds have returned to the Otago Peninsula late after their colony was devastated in Autumn this year. Forest and Bird have been helping the titi breed at Sandymount for the past two seasons, but a ferret slipped through the trapline in April, killing the monitored chicks just weeks before they were due to fledge. Titi - also known as sooty shearwaters - need protection as there aren't many mainland colonies. Franny Cunningham from Forest and Bird explains to Karyn about the protection needed to help their mainland colonies.
