In this episode we talk to OB/GYN Dr. Abike James and her daughter Emi James (neuroscience major) about balancing their scientific knowledge alongside the reality of puberty as mama and binti. Emi shares her experience as a swimmer and how her mother coached her to use a tampon during her first cycles. Dr. James shares her best practices for supporting bintis and mamas over generations through caring relationships with patients. We also discuss changes in binti bodies and attitudes and how we are the original "bluetooth" as our bodies sync up when bintis spend time together!
(Note: At the end of this episode we talk to Dr. James about her research and work with bintis who have experienced female genital cutting. This is a global podcast and this is a dynamic that we discussed often in our travel to speak with bintis in East Africa. Thank you Dr. James for taking care to clearly explain this cultural practice to young bintis and mamas.)
As always, thank you for listening and don't forget to follow and share.
