Random House presents the audiobook edition of Raven: Blood Eye by Giles Kristian, read by Philip Stevens.
The first book in a thrilling Viking trilogy that launched the career of acclaimed historical novelist Giles Kristian - who's now confronting the tumult and devastation of the English Civil War in The Bleeding Land.
For two years Osric has lived a simple life, though he is feared and shunned for his mysterious past and blood-red eye. When raiders from across the sea ransack his village, Osric finds himself taken prisoner by their chief, Sigurd the Lucky.
Immersed in the Norsemen's world and driven by their lust for adventure, Osric proves a natural warrior and forges a deep bond with Sigurd, who renames him Raven. But the Norsemen's world is a savage one, where loyalty is often repaid in blood and a young man must become a killer to survive....

Fab!
I love this book. I read it first on my Kindle a couple of years ago, and thought I'd get it on audible as well. The narrator is extremely good, his enunciation clear, and he gives a good account of the widely differing characters, letting the listener feel more involved in the story, rather than just read the words off a page with no emotion. My only only bone to pick with this narrator is that he mangles many of the Norse names, like ystein and Hkon. I realise that audiobook production is extremely labor intensive in many ways, but I feel he could have done a better job by 'asking around' and at least do some research on these (to many) un-pronunceable names. I know another author whose audiobook narrator did just that, and this is why I'm disappointed in Stevens' performance and apparent lack of research. Other than this issue, I love the story. It has all my favourite parts in it, like seemingly hopeless and lost battles with blood, guts, and limbs lopped off, disemboweling and beheading. And love. just a little, not too much. Fill your boots.
Excellent read
This tale of Raven and his adventures with Sigurd is an excellent tale a must to be read
Absolutely Bloody Brilliant!
Loved every minute of it and to hear so many superb sarcastic witty insults and sooo many kennings was a real treat. Loved it as a book and I love Giles words and Philips storytelling skills even more as an audiobook.
Is it me or is the name Raven goofy?
The first trilogy Giles Kristian done was amazing, character set up was great and characters had compelling motives and you hated the character you was meant to and love the Nordic anti-hero's. This book falls sort of the mark. This is why, it written from the perspective of a no-body who bumps in to Sigurd his original crew in England. The hole book is spent setting up this character who is boring and gets the nick name of Raven.... What happen to Sigurd's and crew after the last trilogy? You will not find out here and most the book is Raven going off on a solo mission then at the last minute when all seem lost Sigurd and crew come in to save him.... wish they left Raven to die. Story boiled down to Raven went here and found he could fight well, lost Sigurd and crew fight for a bit and being sad that he think Sigurd is dead then.... Sigurd comes to save the day. This happen 2 or 3 time.
