The town of Paradise, California, is still trying to recover from the deadly and destructive Camp Fire that broke out in November 2018, killing 85 people and destroying more than 13,000 homes. In the days and weeks after the fire, residents were worried that big developers would swoop in, buy up the land at a discount and rebuild Paradise in a way that would alter the existing community.
