It was anything but an ideal start to the 2023-24 season opener for Arizona State Sun Devils basketball following a 71-56 loss to Mississippi State basketball at the Barstool Invitational. The Sun Devils had many new faces via the NCAA Transfer Porta to juggle, including Shawn Phillips, Jose Perez, and Kamari Lands, all of whom had big roles in last night's game. The return of guys like Frankie Collins and Jamiya Neal was going to be pivotal this season to get everything on track, but last night's loss looked like there was still a lot of work that needed to be done. Still, beyond the overreactions to the loss, there were some positives to build off of.
