Did you know that India’s online food industry is expected to be 8 billion dollar market by 2022. Food tech has now made its presence in greater than 500 cities in India. Rapid digitization, an increase in online buyer base coupled with an increased spending capacity has led to this explosive growth. But this growth comes at a cost of an environmental damage dominated by single use plastic.

In fact in few of our previous episodes we have discussed in detail the alarming facts and figures and dangerous impacts of single use plastic and it is fantastic to see how many innovators and entrepreneurs are focussed towards solving this problem by way of building circular business models. In case you haven’t checked it out ..make a note, do listen to episode number 22, 31, 32, 33, 36 & 37.

Our guest for today is Shashwat Gangwal, founder of InfinityBox. Their solution is aimed towards creating a circular economy for food delivery industry.

Let’s put that into perspective, today when you order food, you get deliveries in plastic containers / plastic packs which are sealed together with plastic adhesive tape and delivered to you either in a plastic or paper bag. Sounds relatable? Once emptied this packaging becomes garbage. Some environmentally conscious restaurants do provide cardboard / aluminum packaging but they are few and far between and even then this is not a complete solution to solve the single use plastic problem.

On the other hand, InfinityBox (as the name suggests) are reusable and recyclable environment-friendly food packaging containers which will soon be linked to your food aggregator app. Sounds pretty cool right, so why don’t you join me to understand from Shashwat how they are getting this done!
