It is hard to get a child to walk in salvation because they really have no comprehension of weakness and humility.  But in an adult, to get a grown up to walk in salvation they must feel pain and suffering before they realize they may need God.  In what ever the age of the human is, there has to be the spiritual birth, a spiritual enlightenment, the soul must belong to God before one can walk in salvation for a life time.
