We interview Jon Ronson, who has been studying conspiracy theories and a variety of other topics up our alley for the last three decades. He’s the author of books like 'Men Who Stare At Goats' and 'Them: Adventures With Extremists'. He’s also also made documentary series like 'The Secret Rulers of the World', which saw Ronson infiltrating Bohemian Grove on the same day that Alex Jones did in the late 90s. Jon Ronson’s latest work is a Radio 4 and BBC Sounds podcast series entitled 'Things Fell Apart'. It covers, among other things, satanic panic and tragic QAnon figure Isaac Kappy.

Even in the early conversations discussing the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, there was always the fear that it could potentially fall into the wrong hands.  Unfortunately, the QAA team is here to tell you that it has.  It is definitely already in the wrong hands.  And that’s mostly due to the fact that sophisticated AI algorithms are available to anyone with an internet connection.  Conspiracy theorists have a brand-new tool at their disposal to further muddy the waters between what is real and what is not.  

But it wasn’t always this way.  Jake tracks the humble beginnings of AI interacting with social media users while Travis breaks down how it's been used to mess with our brains more recently.  One thing is clear however, AI is here to stay… and it has already replaced the QAA hosts.

Premium Episode 239: The Key Bridge Collapse (Sample)

According to the Tartarian Empire conspiracy theory there once existed a massive, advanced regime that stretched over much of the Asian continent. This Empire’s power was so great that they built structures all over the world, including in Africa, North America and South America. Buildings such as the White House in Washington D.C. and the Great Pyramids in Egypt were built by the great, globe spanning Tartarian empire. They were able to accomplish this in part thanks to advanced technology that is lost to time, like batteries powered by the Earth which distributed electricity wirelessly.

This theory has spawned a community of people who pour through old European maps and pictures of 19th century buildings in search of evidence for this lost empire, then post their findings on Reddit and Tik tok.

But was there really a lost empire called “Tartaria?” Or have conspiracy theorists on the internet misinterpreted an archaic European term for parts of Asia then proceeded to desperately search for evidence of a better world that was lost to time?
