Smyrna was dealing with attacks on every level. They were the suffering church. Persecuted, afflicted, slandered, and impoverished. Spiritually rich and vibrant, but fearful. Jesus says to them and to us, “Overcome fear. Be faithful, for I AM Faithful!”
