SOLVED_ The Case of Koh Yu-Jeong

Listen Later

A man arrives at a Jeju Island pension to see his young son. He eats a curry dinner. Then he disappears from the face of the earth. His body is never found. His ex-wife is the last person to see him alive.

Koh Yu-Jeong, 37, was sentenced to life in prison for the premeditated murder of her former husband Kang in May 2019. She lured him to a vacation rental with a promise of visitation rights, drugged him with sleeping pills, and stabbed him to death. She then dismembered his body into over 30 bags, scattering remains across highways and into the sea. Her crime only came to light when Kang's brother filed a missing person report.

Prosecutors initially demanded the death penalty, citing her "contempt towards human life" and lack of remorse. The court found her guilty, noting she meticulously planned the murder and fabricated a false rape claim to justify her actions. Though acquitted of killing her stepson due to lack of evidence, the court concluded she must be "permanently separated from society." Turn down the lights, put on your headphones, and press play because the monster hid behind a mother's face.
