Malcolm Turnbull is facing another potential challenge for his leadership.

The Australian Prime Minister and Liberal Party leader has held a crisis meeting with cabinet ministers overnight.

He's trying to shore up support, ahead of a looming challenge from Immigration Minister Peter Dutton, a controversial character in this country.

Australian correspondent Steve Price told Mike Hosking that challenge could come as early as Wednesday.

"Malcolm Turnbull is in more trouble than the Wallabies and that's saying something. I think it is odd and I think this thing is going to play out pretty quickly."

The latest poll out today, delivers another battering to Malcolm Turnbull and the coalition he leads.
