In this week’s episode, we begin taking a closer look at the origin stories of the Trich and its characteristics, how it manifests to stop it before it gets worse. We also are reminded through a Biblical history lesson that the Almighty Gods’ son Jesus is the only one who can help us destroy this bully once and for all but we have to grab hold of his power. This episode is inspired by a sermon based on Mark Chapter 5 in the Bible. It is important for us to continue to understand the spiritual warfare we stepped into by being born into this world. While what happened to get us in this situation is not our fault, it is our responsibility to do something about it.

Reset

I never thought about what I did, or what I thought about, or how I felt, or how I moved, or how my body was positioned before I pulled… are you not on the hunt during these traces?.. Is that not the behavior of the fallen one?

In this week’s episode, we kick off season two of STP with a much needed reset. It’s important you hear and read everything through the lens of a Biblical understanding of the human experience. We are more than our bodies. We are souls with spirits and to understand the Trich you have to understand this principle. This is not a Bible study but if you do not understand all of creation, including the devil, was built from God you can’t understand where your help with Trichotillomania will come from. 

S2 Episode One

“ The only difference between those who are weak and those who are strong… are those who believe they are…even if your not a Christian”

It’s important to start to pay close attention to our actions and behaviors before the pulling starts. What difference does it make? Does any powerful country go to war without a defense plan? If we don’t want to accept hair pulling as a normality of life then we need to look at every pull as an act of war against our flesh. This enemy is entangled in our thoughts and actions making us think we are causing this act alone. Imagine a bully taking your hand and punching you in your own face, and you thinking it’s you acting alone. My friends, our body and our thoughts must obey what we tell it to do in the name of Jesus. 

Once we are able to build the muscles of policing our thoughts and posturing our physical bodies to match -we can start to combat our actions ahead of time. This is a process as I’ve mentioned from the first episode but it’s important because we deserve peace in our mind, home, and bodies.

“It’s going to be very difficult for someone to listen to this if they don't understand the spiritual realm that is around us and through us… that is beyond our senses of what we can see, touch, feel, smell, or hear.”

In this week’s episode, I reflect on the past year since I started Stop The Pull for people who suffer from trichotillomania. It’s important to understand our dispositions as more than humans on this earth. We have our bodies but we also are our souls/ minds, and our spirits. Whether we opted out of believing in the spiritual realm or not, doesn’t change its effect on our lives. Before you can accept the truth of where our help will come from, you first have to understand who or whom the help is. 

“The truth, as brutal as it is, is that we are choosing to let satan make us pull…this ultimately means we are going to need more tactics.”

Just like in war, if you know what the enemy is plotting, where they are going, when and how they are going to get there, do you not have enough information to intercept whatever plan they may have? This episode is all about the recognition that this is a war we are caught in and even though we didn’t choose to get in this battle we can make a choice to get out of it for good.

If you are not a Christian and still listened to this series I urge you to keep listening. If you are a Christian, read the bible my friend it’s the main way to get closer to God. As we head into year 2 I want to remind you we are in this fight together.

“The mirror is low key an enemy.. Looking at myself close up in the mirror helps me to zero in on certain hairs (to pull out)... Its an area of weakness for me”

In this week’s episode, we continue the conversation about the tactics the enemy uses to get us to pull. The significance of this episode lies in understanding what takes place within us and around us just before the pulling starts. The tingles, the closeness to a mirror, these are all tall tail signs something is about to happen. 

“You’ll want to put distance between yourself and the mirror… It's easier to catch it before you start going into the act”

Just like in the game of chess, knowing what your enemy is going to do before they do it gives you a better chance to defend yourself. 

It’s important we use our words just as much as we use our actions to stop the pull. One without the other at this point is foolishness. Using our words wisely in these moments mixed with prayer (for an example, saying out loud "stop the pull in Jesus name") as we physically stop our hands from pulling is key. The Bible teaches us that we are not just flesh and bone/ bodies but we have a soul and a spirit. Our soul is our will, our emotions, our thoughts, personality, etc. and our spirit is one of two things, of God or not of God. Based on what we believe about God determines his spirit on us or not. We have a choice. However, just because someone chooses not to believe isn't going to stop the spirit realm from using or bullying them. Look at me, I believe in God and I'm still dealing with the same thing you are. Difference is, there is a real end in sight to trichotillomania over here and it won't cost you a thing.

“I had to shift my focus on what I was doing physically with my hands so that it would make the shift in my mind..” 

In this week’s episode, I talk about the tactics of the bully to get us to pull at times, as well as the tactics the Lord gave me to combat them one by one. The Biblical context behind this segment is the story in Mark chapter 5 verse 1-20. For those who know, it is the story about the man cutting himself in the tomb.

“Tactic number 5 I actually have circled in my notebook because it’s that important and stood out to me… ”

Hair Pulling at times is a thoughtless act. Through creating this episode, I have become much more aware of my body and my actions. God told me to tell you to keep awareness close to your heart because this is the season of the power of observation. 

It’s through observation that I began to notice the same behavioral patterns my body would do before the hair pulling begins. I need us to be aware of these tactics because it will help us to be on defense and raise up prayer and worship and stop the pull before it even begins. God gave me the revelation of the power of letting you know these tactics and to ask you to join the conversation.

I immediately panicked but I wanted to play it as cool as possible because I wasn’t sure (he saw me pulling), so I gently closed the door….” 

In this week’s episode, I talk about how hair pulling manifested throughout the decades. In what will also probably be the most sensitive and vulnerable things I’ve ever divulged in my life, details of the symptoms of trichotillomania. 

“ God has me writing this and now speaking to you about this for a reason...”

As hair pulling manifested every five to ten years things started to get worse, my hormones were constantly changing causing hair to pop up all over my body. In this episode, I speak briefly about being in a long term relationship while dealing with this "disease". If you have a similar story I encourage you to tell someone or tell your truth in this community I am building.

The Beginning

When my hair pulling disorder started I was in the fourth grade. I can’t believe I am still dealing with this over 20 years later. I will not be dealing with this for much longer and neither will you IF you only believe. 

In this week’s episode, I talk about what triggered the beginning of my hair pulling disorder. If you are on this journey with me you have a beginning point too, whether you remember it or not. It all started early for me..the 4th or 5th grade to be exact. 

“ That was the first time I ever really remember feeling so embarrassed and being exposed in that way...”

I remember the first time I crossed paths with someone who had trichotillomania. Little did I know within seconds it was going to be passed to me like a virus that had no expiration or cure. I only recently started to recall, in vivid detail, how my hair pulling disorder formed from such a young age up until now. This disorder or disease (whatever you want to call it) is nothing but a spirit from the depths of hell sent to hurt us… but God wants us to know we can rely on him to get rid of it for good. Read Mark 5 5:-9 NIV in the Bible. This is nothing new to God. There is a devil in a man in that verse. He tortured that man causing him to cut himself. This hair pulling bully is related to or is the same one.

How a church conference set the stage for a unique encounter with God. I was given an instruction that will reveal nothing but the truth to you and I in time.

If you are anything like me you’ve had enough courage at this point to start researching what a hair pulling disorder is, the side-effects, treatment options, symptoms, etc. You've looked into blogs to see who's talking about it, even found the scientific word for it- Trichotillomania. Something led you to this series and I hope you subscribe. If you take this journey with me, one day I believe we will be set free, no pills, no piece of technology that buzzes on our arms, no drugs, no broken promises from Doctors and the healthcare system. By faith we will be set free.

Episode #1

“It was like my heart knew before my mind that I was going to receive a word from God… And I did.”

A few months ago [October 2023] I went to a Church Conference in a state I’d never been to before. The last day I was the there the Lead Pastor said to the audience “if you walk away from this conference and don't have an encounter with God it’s your fault”. I know that sounds harsh, I think he's actually really nice, but he was right. If we don’t open our hearts, speaking out loud (or in writing) directly to God not only about our problems but worshipping and praying, then we can block our own blessings in this life. I chose to believe I would receive a word from God before I left that conference and I did. I had NO clue what I was going to receive - let alone that I would be exposing this dark secret I’ve held on to almost my entire life... my hair pulling disorder.

Many prayers and miracles have been answered throughout my life, but I still kept pulling and deep down I didn't think it would ever change. I never saw the end of this disease until now. The Holy Spirit told me to start this podcast and through it I will be delivered and anyone who joins in, he, my God, the Alpha and Omega, name above all names, will deliver them too. Even if you're not a believer, God says,“Try me in doses and I will heal you."
