A popped balloon, not gunshots, sparked widespread panic and a 6-hour lockdown at the Town Center mall in Boca Raton on Sunday. A janitor’s garbage cart ran over the balloon near the food court, and shoppers fled. Officers in tactical gear swarmed the mall after reports of shots fired while shoppers hid.
