The thing I enjoy about studying the Bible is that in different seasons, the same scripture can hold different meanings. Whilst reading the book of Amos 4, a chapter titled, “God’s Punishments Have Not Reformed Israel” in the NKJV, I was taken aback by the idea that God released plagues on the Israelites to get them to turn back to Him. It led me down this path of wanting to understand more about when and why the Lord chastens us (divine discipline) and the importance of not being prideful enough to think that we can live without God.
