The many colourful characters include Ruby, the 20-stone caretaker with an acute spelling problem; a secretary who worships Margaret Thatcher; a villager who grows giant carrots; a barmaid/parent who requests sex lessons, and a five-year-old boy whose language is colourful in the extreme. And then there's also beautiful, bright Beth Henderson, who is irresistibly attractive to the young headmaster....

A very gentle book
It was a pleasant but rather bland book, not much story but nice gentle 'background listening' while I was busy with other things. The narration was a bit irritating, too deliberate and expressionless but the book does have a quiet charm and I don't regret buying it, I may even listen to it again at some point in the future.
School fun
Loved it, made me laugh throughout just could not stop listening I will be buying the next book in the series.
Light hearted and easy listen
It took a while to get used to the narrator and at some points he lacked a bit of expression. However, still turned out to be an enjoyable listen. The story is pleasant but uneventful.
brilliant
very good listing and very funny carry on nicely from the other books x x
Dull dull dull
This could have been a good book but for the mindblowingly boring narration. Really odd because as it was narrated by the author you would think he of all people would know where to put intonation but there was none- - he might as well have been reading the phone directory. Returned this one and won't be buying any more audiobooks in the series - might give the written ones a try just to see if they come across better in that format
