Editorial Reviews:
Veteran performers Walter Covell and Walter Zimmerman lead this gripping production of classic Sherlock Holmes stories. Get to know the sly Irene Adler in "A Scandal in Bohemia", or follow Holmes into the sordid opium dens in "The Man with the Twisted Lip". Collected here are 12 of some of the most beloved cases from one of the greatest mystery writers of all time. This performance of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a great collection for listeners just getting acquainted with the detective or those looking to renew their love for the famous resident of 221B Baker Street.

A master story teller.
Sherlock Holmes is a character who needs no introduction, and these stories represent some of the best written about him. The reading are decent, though I find the narrator a touch raspy. That said, I usually dislike cast readings as some of the voices can be difficult to hear in a car, though I have not found that a problem with these at all. I would recommend them to anyone interested in discovering Sherlock Holmes.
Exciting Adventures Well Told
This recording offers some of the most famous cases read by a cast of actors that bring the stories alive. I'm a fan but not a fanatic, and I enjoyed hearing the stories I had read decades ago (and seen a few years ago) reminding me of the essence of Sherlock Holmes. Lots of fun.
The most famous sleuth in the world.
What did you love best about The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes?
I love Sherlock Holmes stories. This audible book delivered. There is always an excitement about how the story will end. Anticipating how Sherlock will explain his deductions is a thrill.
What other book might you compare The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes to and why?
Father Brown mysteries can be just as thrilling and he reveals his deductions about the same as Sherlock.
What does Walter Covell and Walter Zimmerman bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
It is almost like watching a movie, you see in your mind what is happening. You hear the details.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
They always move me.
sub par performance
The biggest problem with this audiobook is that the doctor Watson character seems intent on doing his Nigel Bruce through the whole book making it virtually unlistenable.
Great stories, not great narration
I bought this because I want to listen to the stories as they were originally collected, not in smaller sets or themed sets, of which Audible offers so many. The stories are great, but I was disappointed in the narration. Some of the stories were read by several people and some by only one or two. Most did Watson in an extremely loud and abrasive voice and Holmes in a dull, lifeless voice - neither of which matched my conceptions of the characters.
