Option 4 in our Mayfield Matrix series is probably the least likely -- what if the Browns just went ahead and signed Baker Mayfield to a short extension? The model here is the three-year extension that Jacksonville a bit unexpectedly gave to Blake Bortles in February of 2018 as he was entering his fifth season. It showed faith in an inconsistent QB, though the Jags had just made the AFC Championship Game. It didn't work out long term. Bortles was benched in Year 5 and then let go.
But compared to letting Mayfield ride out his fifth-year option in 2022, this would be a sign of faith.

The NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday night and we're getting you ready with a full first round mock draft.
For the third year in a row, the Orange and Brown Talk and Buckeye Talk crews got together and made every pick in the first round. Nathan Baird, Tim Bielik, Andrew Gillis, Dan Labbe, Stephen Means and Jimmy Watkins were all assigned teams and they worked their way through the first 32 picks, making trades and filling needs along the way.
While the first pick was a no-brainer, things got interesting after that and included discussions on Justin Fields in Pittsburgh and which Buckeyes player could be the first to go in their class next year.

NFL Draft first round mock: We make all 32 picks

The Browns will kick off their last of three straight years without a first-round pick this week, going on the clock on Friday night in the second round. They don't have as much draft capital to work with this year as in years past, so there are plenty of options on the table for GM Andrew Berry in his fifth draft.

3 Browns predictions for the 2024 NFL Draft

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is attempting to come back from an injury this season and has played in just 12 games in two seasons since the Browns acquired him. Is this the year he returns to the elite level the Browns hoped for when they acquired him? Will he at least be a Top 10 quarterback?

We spent our first two draft podcasts discussing specific positions. First it was wide receivers and tight ends, then it was defensive linemen. Today, on our final draft podcast, we open it up to everything else.

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson dropped some hints about the new-look offense during his press conference on Tuesday. He mentioned how it will help the wide receivers and him with new coordinator Ken Dorsey in the fold along with Kevin Stefanski.
Mary Kay Cabot, Ashley Bastock and Dan Labbe start the Wednesday Orange and Brown Talk Podcast by discussing what Watson said about the offense and who they think will call plays.
Then they spend time talking about the secondary. Denzel Ward called it the best in the league on Tuesday while Greg Newsome II talked about how he wants to remain a part of the Browns for a long time. They get into what both players had to say.
