Ephesians 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation...

We are moving along in our series, Armor of God: War Torn to Battle Born, and we'll be spending some time this week looking at the Helmet of Salvation.

One biblical scholar wrote that the helmet of salvation that Paul is alluding to may be like the one given to a victorious soldier in battle. There were different kinds of helmets that signified different kinds of accomplishments, and sometimes, beautiful helmets would be given to victors in battle with different decorations and made from more precious metals.

These helmets weren't made for battle; they were symbols of the battle that had already been won. And likewise, the helmet of salvation could be the victorious one. As the psalmist writes, "Return to me the joy of my salvation."

As we remember our stories of redemption and salvation, we are reminded that it is God that does the fighting and that God is the Victorious One! The helmet of salvation placed upon us by God is a reminder that He will win. We move from a place of defeat to a place of victory, and when we operate from this place, as David did when he fought Goliath, no situation can stand a chance to our God!
