"Is this hell?" I asked myself while sitting in the Dr. office after divorce, because I found out that my ex had in fact had an affair. It's another loss to process as you realize even more, just how much you were in the dark and will possibly never know all that transpired and all that you were unknowingly exposed to during your marriage as your partner betrayed.Today I want to validate those of you who now have to navigate this piece of your journey and offer support to those of you who are scared to lean into this reality and take the actions to empower yourself with the truth about your body, and how it might have been yet again, impacted by betrayal. You are not alone. The Dr. visit to test for STD's because of your partners acting out without your knowing can be another traumatic experience. Not everyone will understand or hold space for the seriousness of this. Today I do, as well as offer encouragement to take this step as it is a part of your healing journey to feeling safe in your body.

He is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), a CSAT supervisor, and CSAT training facilitator as well as an EMDR practitioner. Along with his associates, he is continually developing new program services to meet the needs of addicts and their families as well as adult victims of childhood abuse. He does regular speaking engagements and media appearances. He has appeared on national and local television and radio. He's the author of Silently Seduced, When He's Married To Mom, and his latest groundbreaking book and what we are discussing today, called,  A light in the dark, The hidden legacy of adult children of sex addicts co authored with  Mary E. Meyer, Ph.D., LMFT, and Culle L. Vande Garde, LCSW  where they detail the unique issues experienced by adult children who grew up with a sexually addicted parent.

This book offers a path to unburden their shameful legacy and embrace sexuality and intimacy without the intrusion or constraints from the past.

Adult children who grew up with a parent who had a sexual addiction can be left confused, ashamed, and mistrustful regarding the feelings and boundaries surrounding sex, love, and intimacy.
