Today I want to share some ideas with you that have to do with our children and our thoughts about them during divorce and post divorce that many of you might be feeling and experiencing. I remember early on In my journey I had realized that I've been trying really hard to keep my kids from feeling sadness about everything that was happening. I'd been hoping that they just didn't have any emotions about it. I realize that this was not healthy in that by actually allowing them to feel, feel the sadness and even anger and fear that is associated with it, they can be open now to the joy that will most assuredly follow. 

I realize I had to have confidence in my decision that affected their lives. 

Today I want to offer you thoughts that will not only help YOU with your own experience navigating divorce with kids and all the Intense feelings surrounding that, but i want you to be able to shift from a place of empowering your children through divorce as well.

Divorcing after betrayal adds a different twist if you will to the dynamics of a divorce. Most likely you are still navigating trust and learning to trust yourself again so boundaries after divorce are still going to start with you doing the work to trust YOU again, trusting your body.

It’s not uncommon either to have not had full disclosure of what your partner did during the marriage and so there will be some big emotions to still process even after divorce

Learning to trust yourself, love yourself and then set boundaries with yourself is a fantastic place to begin boundary work. It may feel strange, and you may feel a bit overwhelmed by all the types of boundaries in relationships you need to practice. It may require some work on both sides. But remember, you’re doing this to improve your chances for growth, wellness, and happiness after the divorce. Setting boundaries helps you focus on things that matter. It gives you the safe space you need to heal and thrive. So start drawing those lines as soon as you can

"Even when it would seem to the outsiders looking in that we were ok, I was waiting for the ball to drop again. I was constantly in panic that I would find something out again around his addiction or affair,  this constant state of instability was my life. And because I was not aware of or had skills of emotional regulation, and I wasn't aware that I need to self care and focus on me and heal me and have boundaries, so I was participating in the cycle of abuse and unhealthy by not self regulating by not having healthy skills to cope or heal."

I don't think I could even begin to count the number of fears that come with you are facing the decision of divorce. It's numberless. And so many of those are debilitating. You will never be able to make a decision when fear is driving the ship. YET, I do believe that fear won't always go away either and that doesn't mean you can't still move forward. Your brain is doing it's job by creating a lot of fears that in reality probably won't happen.
