Mikaela is an elementary school teacher. She is the 2017 winner of the limelight video contest… in which she told her story - living and teaching with a form of dwarfism and blindness. Mikaela teachers lower elementary school children - most of whom - she is smaller than. She also does this with a visual impairment that causes her to be legally blind. But she doesn’t let this hold her back. When I first reached out to Mikaela, I thought we would chat about the difficulties of dealing with these disabilities - or disadvantages. BUT I realized - some of the biggest difficulties she deals with are less to do with dwarfism and blindness — but instead - her classroom. So we talked about both! In this episode, you’re going to hear a lot about the challenges that come with being a teacher in the 21st century, how you can help your child be successful socially and how Mikaela deals with violent outbursts in her classroom. PLUS, we’ll talk about how Mikaela has always been optimistic. Her secret to having the happiness skill and how to start loving the very person you are today.
