We are all familiar with ladders, we use them to gain access to things that are inaccessible. Jesus says He is the ladder to heaven. This image paints a picture of us needing to put in the work of climbing the ladder to get to Jesus. But that is not the intended image that is being created by Scripture. Humanity does not climb up to God, instead God makes His divine presence known and felt on earth.
