Movie Review: Roman J. Israel Esq. The legal drama starring Denzel Washington as Roman J. Israel Esq., a lawyer who has spent his career as the man behind the curtain so to speak. An eccentric legal savant, Israel must confront his hardline views of helping the poor and the disaffected when he is thrust into a world of money and power that he's only seen from a safe distance. When an opportunity for a different life comes into conflict with one's beliefs, this is where the character must decide if his lifelong held convictions are truly worth the sacrifices that he has made. Jon Bernthal returns to the role of Frank Castle aka The Punisher for his solo series. Marvel's Netflix shows have run the gamut of quality and I am happy to say that 'The Punisher' has now climbed to the top of my list. Taking on the story of a murdering sociopath anti-hero isn't an easy task but showrunner/executive producer Steve Lightfoot seemingly handled it with ease. The Punisher focuses on Frank Castle months after the events of Daredevil Season 2, in which he is believed to be dead. However, he works in the shadows taking down mobsters, violent thugs, etc until he comes across a bit of evidence that reopens some emotional wounds from his time doing spec ops work in Afghanistan. His spec ops work might just be the key to understanding what happened to his wife and kids, and perhaps tells us more about Frank Castle the man in the end. TV Review: Welcome back to Hawkins, Indiana for the second season of the Netflix runaway hit, Stranger Things. Mindhunter is the latest Netflix original series based on the true crime book, 'Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Crime Unit' written by John E. Douglass and Mark Olshaker. The series depicts the FBI's slow growing serial killer unit in 1977. Surpassing the standard viewpoint on the criminal element of the past, FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) interview imprisoned serial killers to try and broaden their understanding of the psychology of these type of criminals, and to hopefully help stop future killers. The series works very much in the same vein as "Silence of the Lambs." One has to understand how a killer's mind works in order to stop a killer. Mindhunter is the first step in the FBI's now famous "profilers" group of agents.
