Girl's Trip tells the story of four lifelong friends on a long-overdue weekend getaway trip to New Orleans for the annual Essence Music Festival. Their sisterhood is rekindled and wild sides are rediscovered, with nights of partying, hook-ups and bad decisions, as well as raw and vulnerable moments that strengthen their bond. Directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man) and written by Kenya Barris (Black-ish), Girl's Trip takes the simple road tripping movie idea but adds great comedic flair and raunchiness that women rarely get in films aimed at their demographic. #GirlsTrip manages to balance comedy and sincerity and is a great time all around. Director Christopher Nolan’s latest film, Dunkirk, retells the story of the famous evacuation from Dunkirk, France by Allied forces using the help of civilians from England at the early point of WW2. Starring Fionn Whitehead, Cillian Murphy, and Tom Hardy the film works to give three perspectives (Land, Sea, and Air) of the battlefront. With less concentration on heroic speeches or large scale nearly unwatchable violence, the film creates suspense and fear through amazing sound editing an absolutely wonderful score. The Big Sick is the 2017 romantic comedy, directed by Michael Showalter and starring Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan. Kumail plays himself in this autobiographical retelling of his relationship with his now wife, Emily Gordon (who co-wrote the film with Nanjiani). The film deals with issues of familial expectations, cultural clashes, and what it's like to be a foreign born but American raised person working between two very strong worlds. When Kumail and Emily's relationship falters early on, the two are brought back together when Emily becomes deeply ill and falls into a coma. Kumail must learn to challenge the life his parents have set for him as well as connect with Emily's parents to prove he's not the guy they think he is.

#MovieReview: Spider-Man: Homecoming After two reboots, and film live action films, Spider-Man has finally made his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Played this time around by newcomer Tom Holland, Marvel Studios in a joint venture with Sony Pictures brings us a new #Spiderman solo adventure. Taking place just after the events of Captain America: Civil War, the 15 year old Peter Parker AKA Spider-Man finds himself trying to desperately prove to Tony Stark/Iron Man that he is worthy to be an Avenger alongside the other heroes. When a new villain known as the Vulture (Michael Keaton) arises and is stealing high end tech from around NYC and using it for nefarious means Spider-man sets off to stop him and prove his worth. The film does a wonderful job of balancing time between the super heroics and his normal high school life. Tom Holland manages to bring laugh out loud moments to the hilarious character who is constantly trying to figure this whole superhero thing out. Director Jon Watts shows us just what a John Hughes movie would feel like in the modern age of superheroes. Director Edgar Wright goes full on style over substance in his latest getaway driver centered film, Baby Driver. Centered around Baby (Ansel Elgort), a wheelman for Doc (Kevin Spacey) who is a criminal kingpin of sorts. Working to pay off a debt to Doc, Baby works with some shady characters and looks good while doing it. A film that is driven by its soundtrack and audio design is a unique entry into the Edgar Wright's collection of films. While the style is a large part of the premise here, does Wright and the cast deliver a solid story that leads you wanting more? Check out the review to find out. Movie Review of #WarForThePlanetOfTheApes Director Matt Reeves returns to the Apes franchise, with War for the Planet of the Apes, to fully explore the war that has been brewing since the franchise's beginning in Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011. The film decides to take the series into a deeper character driven direction than even the previous films and works to show Caeser as a fully realized character underneath all the excellent CGI and MoCap work by actor, Andy Serkis. PREMISE: Two years after the events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Caesar, and his apes have been embroiled in a war against humans. As the ape population decreases, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts in order to avenge his fallen companions. The encounter with the apes and humans puts them into the ultimate confrontation, to determine the fate of the Earth. Caesar is pitted against a rogue colonel played excellently by Woody Harrelson who's number one goal is to rid the Earth of these intelligent apes and secure humanity's place at the top of the food chain no matter what. Dealing with issues of humanity, character introspection, violence, subjugation, ends justifying the means, and other topics, War for the Planet of the Apes isn't just a run of the mill summer blockbuster but rather something altogether special.
