We wonder whey he seemed to have do needlessly offended his listeners by using a metaphor that makes us uncomfortable even today. The only conclusion that makes sense is the our Lord purposefully provokes is from time to time to grow us. The means that faith is not a fixed, unmovable thing but a journey that continually stretches us into new places. We must therefore be both planted and rooted and open to change! That is what it means to be a faithful follower of Christ.
