Slow to getting to the point...

What disappointed you about The Old Silent?

I really wanted to like the story, but I have gotten used to Ms. Grimes love of pointless musing, irrelevant storylines, and flights of fancy of her characters. The dialogues in her stories can be frustrating at times, especially when you are not sure what this has to do with moving the story along. This story was 2 hours in and I was ready to pull my hair. All the internal dialogue, the witty repartee with no direction, and a whimsy that was very juvenile at times. It just took forever to get to the point.

Not, sure. Having a hard time finding anything right now.

Which character as performed by Steve West was your favorite?

I love Steve West, his performance is the only reason I kept reading

Not so much the characters, but the dialogue.

Yes; because Martha Grimes is brilliant as is Steve West's delivery of her mysteries.

All of the other Richard Jury mysteries; the same characters are strung throughout in the most beguiling manner.

Yes; eleven other Richard Jury Mysteries. This one is just as unique and laden with unexpected turns.

If you could take any character from The Old Silent out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would love to be friends with Melrose Plant--I want to date Richard Jury, CID; so a nice romantic dinner with Richard please!

This is yet another book, in the series, where poor Richard is drawn to a woman who is either unavailable or who dies soon after he starts-up a romance; the man is cursed!

I love The Old Silent

Having read almost all of Martha Grimes Richard Jury stories, it is a real pleasure listening to them again and reminiscing about the plots. The old gang from Long Pid does not disapoint.

Too Much Music, Not Enough Mystery

Would you try another book from Martha Grimes and/or Steve West?

Yes ~~ have been a fan of Martha Grimes and the Richard Jury series for over 20 years, but for some reason missed The Old Silent ~~ am now grateful for small favors !! Have seldom been so disappointed in a book !! It was not a "mystery" ~~ more an anthology of early R&B artists (John Coletrane, Charlie Parker, etc.).
