Pentecost emphasizes the sending of the Holy Spirit to empower the disciples of Christ to carry on His mission in the world. The calling given us by the Prince of Peace is so rarely one of peace on this earth. Our faith inevitably causes conflict with the world, within our families, and sometimes even within ourselves. It can be tempting to compromise to make a temporary peace. Instead, only through embracing and resolving our conflicts through the cross of Christ do we find true wholeness and peace.
