Coming up to Christmas 2022, David Hickey had so much to look forward to. He was back refereeing after a hip replacement. As Chairman of Fenagh, the club was in the middle of an extensive development while he was also enjoying working with the juveniles.
Early on Christmas morning, he was in the middle of opening presents with his wife, Sandra, and daughter, Molly, when he got a phone call telling him to get over to his mother's house immediately. His mother, Mary (Moll) Hickey, had taken ill. Sadly she passed away that day.
In this extensive interview, David talks about a range of topics involving refereeing, club, county, family and pays tribute to his mother whom the entire Hickey family still miss so much.
