#171 Understanding Our Divided Realities (with Jonathan Haidt)

This week on Under The Skin is the long awaited guest Jonathan Haidt. Jonathan is an American social psychologist and professor. He is author of The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion, and The Coddling of the American Mind. His main areas of study are the psychology of morality and moral emotions.

This is a longer than usual podcast as it delves deep into the root of the division that proliferates every aspect of our political and cultural life right now. We obviously discuss US politics but not just that - we chat about how the goal of The Left to dismantle power has changed and mutated of the years - shifting from economics to identity issues. Jonathan explains some of his findings when researching the psychology of transcendence, we discuss fundamentalism and debate the idea progressivism.
