Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past.

Pat Zachry hit the ground running in his major league career—winning a share of the 1976 National League Rookie of the Year award while winning a dame in each of the NLCS and the World Series with the Cincinnati Reds.

Zachry would go from first to last in mid-1977 when the struggling Big Red Machine matched up with a dysfunctional Mets organization on a trade that would send Zachry and three others to New York in exchange for the iconic Tom Seaver.

Between the infamy of the trade and his struggles with injuries, Zachry would never fully settle in or be embraced, but he flashed some solid pitching at times—though his record would often not reflect that as he toiled for some horrible Mets teams.
