Ephesians 5:1-2 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
We are back into Ephesians this weekend looking at chapter 5! Paul is beginning a new section here on walking in the way of Jesus. In the early church, Christians were called "Followers of The Way" because Jesus proclaims that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and the disciples were the ones that followed in His footsteps.
In the 90's, there was a huge trend for people to wear WWJD bracelets, and these are making a comeback (along with a lot of other 90's trends...). These bracelets were outward expressions that showed a desire to live, act, and talk like Jesus, to do as Jesus did, and as followers of Jesus, we are called to walk in the way of Jesus.
Ephesians was a highly pagan culture, full of all forms of depravity and debauchery, and Paul admonishes the early church to, quite simply, be like Jesus, to represent His holiness to the broken world, and then he lays out what this walk looks like.
Over the next few weeks, we'll be spending some time looking at the way that Jesus walks, and we will begin this miniseries this weekend.
