Marshal Burnham is the Family Ministries Pastor at Harvest Muskoka. We’re excited to have him bring the Word as our guest speaker this week. Here is a short preview as we look forward to Sunday.
In a world that often feels grey, physically and culturally, Jesus calls his people to resist, retreat and reflect his compassion (Matthew 9:35–38). He saw crowds “harassed and helpless” and declared the harvest plentiful, so our first response is to pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest and then go. We’re not qualified by résumé but by the Spirit; God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called. Every vocation and placement is kingdom assignment: teachers, parents, students, trades, professionals—each becomes a field for gospel presence. This week, pray for more labourers and step into your lane as one of them: speak Jesus’ name, show his compassion, and trust the Spirit to supply the words.

We are Messengers…
… Called to see the Lost and have hearts of compassion like Christ (Matthew 9:36)
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (Matthew 9:36)
…Called to pray for more labourers (Matthew 9:38)
“…therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:38)
… And deliver the gospel with Boldness found in the Holy Spirit (Matthew 10:19-20)
When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. (Matthew 10:19-20)
