Big Takeaways

When it comes to announcing the engagement, order of who you tell can be important. Malori and Ashley had specific orders of who to let know before letting the whole world know.

Venue was the most important thing to get figured out first. They made a list of the spots they were interested in, and worked there way through to see prices and availability. Because of Covid, a lot of places were booked for a long time out (more than a year out).

It really can be very important to see a location in person. You can’t hear ambient noises in a picture or get the real vibe from a website. Size matters too. They did see a venue that was much too large, and realized how much work would go into making that space work.

Remember when looking for venues:

Account for the guest list

Is there enough space for the wedding party?

Make a list of what is important beforehand

After, create a pros and cons list for each place

Sense the vibe when you get there, especially as a same sex couple

When it comes to booking, some vendors might be able to facilitate multiple events in a weekend, where as photographers, planners, musicians, etc are likely to be booked for just the one event.

You definitely don’t want to be thinking about the quality of your photos on the day of. So consider your photographer’s portfolio and what they are good at, that way you can loosen the reins and have the most fun.

Set clear boundaries up top with family, and those involved in planning and preparing. It is important to have a balance.
