Proverbs 9:9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.
We are finishing up our mini-series, Equipping the Saints, by looking at the role of the teacher!
In Ephesians 4, the Apostle Paul describes the role of a teacher as one of the five ministry gifts given by Christ to the church—alongside apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastors. These roles, often referred to as the "fivefold ministry," are designed to equip believers for works of service and to build up the body of Christ. The teacher’s role specifically involves instructing others in sound doctrine, helping believers understand and apply the truths of Scripture. Teachers provide clarity, wisdom, and depth, ensuring the church is rooted in the Word of God and protected from false teachings and spiritual immaturity.
The gifting of a teacher, according to Ephesians 4, is not just about intellectual knowledge but about spiritually empowering others through Truth. Teachers are called to foster unity and maturity in the faith, guiding believers toward the fullness of Christ. Their influence helps the church grow in love and stability, forming a strong foundation that supports the entire body. Ultimately, the teacher's gift is a vital part of God's plan to develop a healthy, mature, and mission-ready church that reflects Christ to the world.
