In this episode we talk about why it’s important not to simply chase a number when it comes to velo. Target velocities at the college level often lead young pitchers to chase numbers too big, too quickly, which can throw training progressions out of order, and ultimately lower their velo ceiling. In our current culture there is a clear divide between average and elite velocity. Elevating more pitchers out of the “average” pool means we have to start understanding how to follow velo trends, how to measure velo predictors, and ultimately, how to prioritize training that makes velo growth sustainable.
