Lake Fork, Texas Fishing Report - Daily

Winter Trophy Bass and Crappie at Lake Fork, Texas

Listen Later

For December 29th at Lake Fork, Texas, here’s what you can expect for your fishing trip.

First, let's talk about the time of day. Sunrise is at 7:24 AM, and sunset will be at 5:25 PM, giving you a good window to get out on the water.

The lake levels are currently about two feet low, but recent fall rains have helped maintain decent water levels. Water temperatures are ranging from 67-72 degrees, and the clarity is fair on the main lake to stained in some of the creeks due to the recent rain.

This time of year is excellent for catching trophy bass, as the big fish are congregating on huge schools of shad, bar fish, sandies, and crappie. You'll find most of the bass in 18-25 feet of water, particularly around humps, points, road beds, pond dams, and ridges.

For lures, football head jigs, grubs, Ned rigs, crankbaits, and Texas-rigged worms are having the best results in these deeper areas. The deep bite is really turning on this month, so having good electronics to locate schools of shad and differentiate between species will be crucial.

If you're targeting crappie, they are excellent in the main river channel timber and lower third of the lake in 30-50 feet of water. Small hand-tied jigs and soft plastics are producing well, and minnows are always a good option.

Hot spots include main lake points, road beds, and humps. The south end of the lake tends to have better water visibility, so focus your efforts there. Also, areas with lots of shad will likely have crappie and bass nearby.

Overall, it's a great time to be out on Lake Fork, and with the right gear and knowledge, you could catch a trophy bass or a nice batch of crappie. Enjoy your day on the water
