First, many Christians believe topical sermons are shallow if not unbiblical, and only expository sermons (preaching that finds its source, content, and application in the biblical text) are acceptable. But aren't most of the topics in the New Testament Letters to the Early Church topical issues the church is dealing with? Second, what is the role of a pastor? Do we expect too much of them? Finally, how many of us would recognize and accept Jesus if he returned today?
