Navigate The Day

You Don’t Have To Have An Opinion

Listen Later

In this episode of Navigate The Day, I explore the idea of not having an opinion. Marcus Aurelius said, "We have the power to hold no opinion about a thing and not let it upset our state of mind, for things have no natural power to shape our judgments." This thought has been on my mind a lot lately, especially considering how many opinions I form on a daily basis.

I ask myself what would happen if I didn't have an opinion on things that upset me or stress me out. Would I be more prepared for the negative events that happen in my life? Would I be less judgmental towards my family and coworkers?

I realize that having an opinion often leads to agitation and a negative outlook on life. It's all too easy to label things as good or bad, but this only adds unnecessary stress to my life. Instead of jumping to judgments, I try to think of things as if I had never heard of them before. This helps me approach things with a more neutral mindset and reduces the weight I place on opinions, both my own and others.

In the end, I believe that focusing on not having opinions and practicing this skill will lead to a more peaceful and stress-free life. By letting go of opinions, I can instead give support, empathy, and compassion where I can and just enjoy the company of others.
