ההוראה ממ"ש בהתחלת שלישי דפ' לך לך "וגם ללוט ההולך את אברם הי' צאן ובקר ואהלים", עפמ"ש בגמ' (ב"ק צג, א.) "מנא הא מילתא דאמרי אינשי בתר מרי ניכסי ציבי משך דכתיב וגם ללוט ההולך את אברם וגו'" (זה שללוט הי' צאן וכו' הוא בגלל שהלך עם אברם): גודל המעלה והחשיבות דשכן טוב, ובמיוחד בענין החינוך (שהזמ"ג - התחלת שנת הלימודים לאחרי חודש תשרי) - החשיבות לשלוח הבנים והבנות לבית ספר שאברם הולך שם! ולא לאיפה שהולכים "אינשי" סתם.

On the verse (at the beginning of shelishi of Lech Lecha), “And also Lot, who went with Avram, had flocks and cattle and tents,” the Gemara says (Bava Kama 93a): “From where is it derived what people say: Drag wood after a property owner? As it is written, ‘And also Lot, who went with Avram etc.’” The reason Lot had wealth is because he went with Avram. This teaches us the importance of having good neighbors, and especially when it comes to education (which is a timely issue, because this is the time of year when children begin attending school on a regular basis every day, after the month of Tishrei) – it is crucial to send one’s sons and daughters to a school that “Avram” goes to, not one where the “people” go.
