, Aurelius reminds us that we have power over our minds but not necessarily outside events. For example being distressed or bothered by small things instantly, does not help with selfdiscipline. If your working on a particular goal but your thoughts on your finances or relationships keep emerging, you will be distracted and reaching your goal will take longer and necessarily end up doing a good job. Epictitus tells us to reinforce ourselves within your control and what is out of your control. In other words if you embrace what is out of your control and accept it, you’ll experience tranquility. Next time, just ask yourself; Do I have a problem with my life? No.., then don’t worry, if it’s yes.., Can you do something about it..,? Yes…, then don’t worry about it.., If it’s no.., then don’t worry about it.
