Finally, the moment has arrived. After years of legal battles, political negotiations, and fierce protests from activist groups, an agreement has finally been reached on reparations to compensate for colonial exploitation, human trafficking, and slavery. A group of Afro-Europeans has decided to invest their share of the payments in a unique museum project: The Museum of Black Futures.

Since we released this statement we're organizing vibrant programs, performances, lectures, and discussions trying to ignite the imagination and questions what the term 'museum' really means nowadays. And what does it mean to center Blackness within such a Eurocentric concept?

Every contribution is archived in a podcast and will eventually find a home in the new museum. How do we ensure the focus is shared among the diverse Afro-diasporic communities? And how do we make space for our past in a museum that looks towards the future?
