David King, President of Alexander Haas

Success quote: “Either do it right or don’t do it at all” –

Best piece of advice David has ever received: “(Paraphrasing Alan Weiss:) Don’t sell your time – sell your experience, expertise and the knowledge that you have gained over many years of work that has great value that can’t be replicated. The only people that sell their time are people who have nothing else to sell.” -Alan Weiss, “Million Dollar Consulting”

Personal habit that contributes to David’s success: Organize everything that needs to be done into 3 buckets: Must do, should do and could do. Must do – things that absolutely have to get done, that are mission-critical, that, if not done, can derail the project. Should do – things that would add value to what’s being worked on and should do if all of the Must Do things are done. They will add value if done but will not train wreck the project if they are not completed. Could Do – could add marginal value but probably would not be missed if they’re not done. Could Do’s should NEVER be done after 5 o’clock or on the weekend.
