Industry professionals can access information faster than ever before, through online searches, videos, webinars and discussion boards. I recently interviewed Erin Holohan, owner of HeatingHelp.com – an online industry discussion forum with over 94,000 conversations – about the importance of sharing information.
Started in 1997, Heating Help focuses on building a strong online community of homeowners and industry professionals. Erin explains a part of the site’s success is its focus on users, providing useful resources and allowing conversations to flow organically.
Even with a wide availability of online resources, Erin says in-person training cannot be replaced. Instead, online resources should be used to complement hands-on training.
There is a trend towards searching for instant answers versus conducting research, especially in younger industry professionals. It is Erin’s hope that Heating Help is a forum that provides both for current and future professionals.
