What is the typical American financial path? (make money, spend money, debt, repeat) [debt and consumerism]

What is the promise of Financial Independence? (Living a fulfilling life that puts you in the driver's seat)

Well that all sounds good but how do you work towards FI? (to start, focus on the difference between what you make and what you spend)

How are people supposed to know what they spend? (Track your card(s), download a spending app like Mint, create a spreadsheet)

So once someone knows what they spend what do they do next? (now we focus on growing the gap between what they make and spend)

What if they spend more than they make? (need to either spend less or make more)

So do people need to deprive themselves to live a life of FI? (absolutely not, it’s about intention and control)
