Mental Strength Conversations

002 - Melissa Moon

Listen Later

Melissa Moon is always looking up.    The two-time World Mountain Running Champion, Melissa has numerous other accolades to her name including 21 New Zealand athletic titles, was named New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year in 2001, has been inducted into the Wellington Sports Legends Hall of fame and in 2010 and 2012 she won the women's race up the Empire State Building. That's 1, 576 steps, up 86 flights in 12 and a half minutes. My quads are burning just thinking about it!   In 2007, Melissa completed 95 days of running completing the World's first ever Blue Planet Run relay to raise awareness for the lack of safe drinking water . The Blue Planet Run took in 16 countries over four continents across the Northern Hemisphere covering 24,500 kilometres. She wore through five pairs of shoes in the process. Melissa has some killer stories about her sporting success including where she summoned the courage and energy to race 12kms up a mountain side, hot on the heals of her opposition. It's phenomenal.    Melissa shares so much knowledge about what it takes to be mentally strong in this episode - it was hard to pick out the golden nuggets. A few include why staying calm when the unexpected happens is vital to your success, how negative self-talk can masquerade as something positive and and my personal favourite - the number one one habit you don't want to start.    So sit back, relax and enjoy your journey - here's Melissa Moon.
