Hello and Happy Halloween! In this episode we are going to feature the members of our orchestra who have prepared and recorded two songs for you. Because of Covid we are unable to plan in-person performances this Fall and rehearsing in groups is challenging as well. Instead we are using our recording studio to record each part one at a time. There are also accompanying videos that you can watch on our Wildcats Instrumental Music YouTube channel. 

 

First you will hear the theme song from Halloween, also known as the Michael Myers theme song, composed by John Carpenter, performed by our orchestra. 

 

Then you will hear two different arrangements by Sean Longstreet to feature our wind players on Danny Elfman’s “This is Halloween,” from Nightmare Before Christmas. This is hands down my favorite Halloween song. I’m a big fan of Danny Elfman and this song really challenged us because it changes keys constantly. It starts in c minor, and modulates frequently, most often by minor thirds and that’s how he creates such a dark harmonic landscape that makes this music so haunting and special. First you’ll hear an arrangement for flutes, clarinets, saxophone, violin, cello and bass, then you’ll hear the same song but performed by a flute quartet.
